Guest post from our oldest son, Ephraim

I am currently managing a project from design to implementation that will result in beds for the entire family save my parents (not quite sure what they want so far.)

These beds will cost roughly 10 to 15 mil pesos c/u (which is like twenty to thirty dollars US each,) and are made almost entirely of lumber, canvas, and steel pipe.

We don't have a sewing machine, and as the mattresses are canvas and need to be hemmed and two folds sewn in... well, suffice it to say that it is going to take a while. :P

Havilah and I, not speedy seamsters (or seamstresses as the case may be,) held a seven hour sewing bee during which we got a fifth of the way through the beds that need sewing, listened to The March to Magdala in audiobook form, drank tea, and ate lemons (which, I might say, cost just about nineteen cents each.)

Now, I am off to La Vega to spend another 7 mill pesos (14 dollars) to buy enough food for the family for today. My purchases will most likely consist of a few kilos of Motte, which is a soaked grain that we often use as breakfast cereal, a few kilos of potatoes, a few of nectarines or similar fruit, maybe a few of strawberries or other blueberries if I can find a good deal, and then perhaps an empanada to finish off my last few pesos.

"Life is good, real good." -nacho

P.S. To clear up the misconception that I have heard several people express before I left the states, it is NOT true that, "The further south you go, the more mexican the food gets." I think that US American food is actually more mexican tasting than the stuff you get here.

guten hauben herr goodenough,
sounds like fun.
however, im quite sure that somewhere on your flight south, you went way past the "mexican food taste" meridian and are probably not gonna get real mexican food for a long, long, long time. unless of course you meet someone from mexico and can barter for some food from them and have nastalgic conversations in english or mexican...oh wait, you dont know mexican, you know spanish;D i hear it is totally different. but what do i know, ive never been that far south.
looking forward to pics of the beds.
be as blessed as i am impressed, you guys rock!
