Velas Part 10

When it came time to serve the giant pot of blackened carrots and mani and rice (we still haven't named the dish), we were all sitting around in the living room. We were still working on making the table. We each had a utensil in the hand and a smile on the face as we waited to be served.
"Shall we pray?" Papa said in his way that annoys me for some unknown reason to this day.
We bowed our heads and held hands like we usually do in the company of people who are used to doing it that way. Then Mama and Asaph started handing out the bowls.
All we had to eat out of was a set of fourteen bowls. They were made of light stainless steel and cost only a little, but were perfect for pretty much anything, being wide enough at the top for salad and deep enough for broth. They were really big and could hold almost a quart of water, but I think I can decently say that a better dish that could be used for anything could not have been discovered at all.
They were full of salad, which we polished off rapidly. We were capable of making quite delicious salads with nuts, raisins (and there are the richest raisins there), and sometimes meat, and good seasonings like oil, vinegar, salt and pepper.
As soon as the salad was gone we got our bowls refilled with the main course, eating the fruit meanwhile. The conversation pretty much centered around Chile and the people and culture of Chile and all our interesting experiences and some of the Castor's as well. I would have said more things than I did, but I stuck to an occasionally comment or assent because I was busy with my big bowl.
