Feria Photo's

Naphtali became attached to this ugly long hair dog with bangs completely covering his eyes. The dog would always come to him whenever he was out. Naphtali named him Douglas. Then one day, I went to get Naphtali at the park because it was dark. He was sitting on the park bench petting Douglas and they both looked very mournful. "How could they do it to him?" he asked. The dog had been given a hair cut and was wearing rhinestone barrets on his ears. Naphtali refused to believe that Douglas was actually a female but it was obvious. It took a couple days for him to recover from the shock. This is Naphtali and Douglas after the haircut. Naphtali now calls the dog Joanna, Jo for short.
This is the Saturday Feria on Grecia. We walk to it every Saturday. The fruit is huge and better than any fruit we've ever had and it's inexpensive. We buy as much as we can carry in 2 wheeled carts, 2 backpacks and another bag.
Those are the Andes in the distance. You are looking towards our house. It gets more and more crowded the longer we are there. Even in the intense crowds, people don't bump or push or grow impatient. Everyone is peaceful and no one hurries anyone else. The non-produce items are usually laid on the ground on blankets. Everyone is very respectful to not tread on the for-sale items.
Sometimes we will be walking by and one of the vendors will scramble to say an English word to us before we get away. Then they look so proud of themselves. We feel very welcome when they do that. It seems like they accept our language and us. They are very sweet when we try to speak in Spanish to them. They let us say it wrong and often correct our pronunciation.
We buy our fish here. They cut it up for us any way that we want. We can't speak well enough to tell them how we want it so they ask us a bunch of questions and we just smile and agree. Then they cut it very nicely and we are all friends.
 MMMMM!
The organ grinder comes through out neighborhood every Saturday evening. We hear several songs while hanging our laundry and then we clap. Leon and the children chased him down tonight. They talked to him for a while as best they could. Havilah got to have his bird on her finger and Leon gave him a tip. Tips are big around here. We tip the person 100 pesos for bagging our groceries (that's like 20 cents). We tipped the man juggling 4 balls in the intersection today. He was great! He threw them very high and never dropped one and sometimes did it with a ball balancing on his for head.

We are being picked up by a pastor today. He wanted us to visit his church group so he came by to meet us and is coming to get us this morning. He speaks a little English. We are invited to go and eat at his house with his family after the service. Leon, Ephraim, Havilah, Asaph and Zion are singing, "And The Stars" for them during the church meeting. We'll see how that goes. The service is in Spanish so it should be interesting.

Estrallas (spelled wrong probably) means stars. "ES-TRAIL-YES." I love you all so much.
